HP Financial Services’ Irv Rothman Honored At CFO Studio Reception

SOMERSET, NJ – Irv Rothman, CEO of HP Financial Services, was the guest of honor at the CFO Studio Reception held on March 21 in Warren, N.J., introducing the 1st Quarter 2013 issue of CFO Studio Magazine, that featured a cover story about Rothman and his advice to CFOs on preparing for a career move into the top leadership role.

A highlight of the reception was a brief talk given by Rothman, who was CFO at AT&T Credit (later AT&T Capital) before he became a CEO. In the role he holds today, head of the customer financing operation for HP, he heads an organization that employs 1,500 people in more than 50 countries. In his speech, he discussed the idea of remaining true to your values in the face of social and corporate change and how strong values are essential for business success.

In the article, Rothman, who wrote the book entitled Out-Executing the Competition (Wiley, 2012), is quoted as saying that CFOs preparing for a move into the top leadership role should step out of their financial cocoon and “become an active, fully participating member in the strategic discussions.”

Rothman’s business career has spanned three recessions. He has taken businesses public and expanded them globally. The article recounts for CFO Studio Magazine readers two instances in which he challenged the powerful holders of the purse strings—and won.
