SOMERSET, NJ – On October 7th, 2014, Richard Wingate, Esq., Vice President and General Counsel of LG Electronics, USA Inc., posed the question, “Are General Counsels Becoming COOs?” at last night’s General Counsel Studio Executive Dinner. The event, held at The Capital Grille in Paramus, NJ, brought together the area’s top legal executives to share insights about the evolving role of in-house counsel in today’s corporations. Real Estate Strategies Corporation hosted the evening.

Dinner guests had a meaningful discussion about how their legal and business roles sometimes intersect, the importance of taking a leadership role within their companies, and the importance of preserving their status of chief lawyer. While the group diverged on how involved with business decisions a General Counsel should become, the consensus was that they have largely become the Chief “Organization” Officers while actively shedding the title of Chief Business Inhibitors.

An article detailing this discussion will appear on

Since the beginning of 2014, General Counsel Studio has hosted several Executive Dinner Series meetings moderated by such distinguished guests as Hugh C. Welsh, Esq., president and general counsel of DSM North America and Christopher Santomassimo, Esq., General Counsel of Agfa Corporation.
