CFO Studio Magazine with Claude Draillard, CFO, Honda Aircraft Company

4 cfostudio.com Andrew Zezas Publisher and Host, CEO CFO Studio, LLC T he last fewmonths have brought a whirlwind of Super Bowl upsets, failed and wasteful impeachment efforts, peace with the Taliban, the passing of an Icon of Business Efficiency, and now a virus that is deadly to the physical and financial health of the entire world! Our hearts and prayers go out to those who lost their lives, those who have lost loved ones, those whose health has been affected, and those who are struggling financially. So much has happened so fast in such a short time! The Kansas City Chiefs walloped the San Francisco 49ers 31 to 20 in an exciting Super Bowl, the kind of game that could have gone either way right up to the end! The government wasted tremendous energy and taxpayer money on an expected-to-fail presidential impeachment effort that, as many expected…did; the Taliban want peace...let’s hope they mean it; THE business icon, Jack Welch, the executive who rebuilt GE, demanded operating and financial efficiencies, and who taught us all how to run profitable companies, passed away on March 1st; and this generation’s Bubonic Plague, the COVID-19 virus, has taken too many lives, has caught us all off-guard by halting global commerce, and will do more damage before it is finished. We are excited about our cover story on the Honda Aircraft Company and how its CFO, Claude Draillard, along with its CEO, Dr. Michimasa Fujino, are clearing the skies for a new and exciting era of personal and private flight. Given this year’s Super Bowl win, we had to ask Dan Crumb, CFO of the Kansas City Chiefs, how finance played a role. We’ve written about Dan before (see CFO Studio magazine Q1 2017, page 10). In this issue Kevin Joyce, VP Insurance Networks, for Atlantic Health System, owner of Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ, shares insights about controlling health care spending. Eric Loughmiller tells us howKAR Global runs automobile auctions around the country, and DSM’s North America CEO and CFO tell us about that company and how its global employees contribute to its doing well by doing good.
